Tewi: For the record, my host came to this conclusion and model of identity before tulpamancy/being plural. Because the default view of "You" being everything in your body and brain is wrong. (edited)
I don’t think we should argue if tulpas are us or not. This community is all about considering them separate. Otherwise tulpamancy wouldn’t exist ♂️

Well, if that happens to you, youll quicly stop seeing it as you as it will feel extremely unnatural to talk about that voice you dont control as "you".
Tewi: Your sense of self "You" is not breathing while typing all this, it's not processing the visual information in your peripherals, and it certainly isn't beating the heart, obviously. Your sense of self is just thinking and participating in this conversation. Everything else you're not conscious of right now has nothing to do with "You", it's the rest of your brain controlling all that.
"You", defined as the conscious part of your brain, can selectively take control of many of these aspects, like breathing manually, and this tends to give the illusion that it's all "You". But it's not, because it all keeps going when "You" are focused on something else entirely. The conscious "You" part of the brain is just a tool of the brain's that thinks about things and applies executive action to select places, sometimes.(edited)

(I dont think you are getting my argument but thats what all of you are doing right now right there, just more subtle... Im trying to make it obvious.)

To me tulpamancy is a lot smaller than the universe. It’s even smaller than me. We’re all small compared to everything that exists. But it’s not that deep.
Tewi: My host realized this before tulpamancy (actually, literally, before Tulpa.info was founded in 2012), from reading a lot of Western Buddhist material on suffering and consciousness. When it came to tulpamancy, everything clicked and made sense easily for us, because we happened to have the right model of identity already established.
By default, the average person is very unlikely to. Not much goes on to tell you you aren't your entire body and brain. Until you start talking about plurality (or doing some rather intense meditation and philosophizing), at which point the incorrect default model fails to explain complex internal experiences.(edited)
As a rule of thumb. If you observe it, it probably isn't you, unless it's a reflection.

What you all are doing is: "I define you as X, from that i logically conclude Y, therefore im right and you are wrong"
And someone else says: "Well, no, you are wrong because i define that as W, from which i logically conclude Z, therefore im right and you are wrong"

I'm thinking this in terms of your thoughts as well as your physical reflection

There's no right or wrong when being descriptive in psychology

The thing about it, is not how we choose to define individual, is that the internal experience of tulpamancy is that suddenly some other thing starts talking to you and you dont decide what they say or when they do... And thus you DECIDE to define that as another individual because thats how individuals are often told apart.
Tewi: Me and two of my systemmates are ~13 years old, Tulpamancy mostly came to be ~11 years ago. There are some bits about "tulpas" that were around before that time (mostly metaphysical in nature I think), and there are actually a lot of "tulpa" systems older than even us.
But yes, we were around for the establishing of (really, the exploration of) tulpamancy, except that we didn't find the community until 2014, so we missed a couple years of crazy hypothesizing and discussion.(edited)

Sorry, typing too slow, I should make these replies
Tewi: There are really two both-existing definitions of "You" even with the right model, to be clear. It's perfectly okay to still associate with your body and the rest of the brain as well, since your identity/sense of self "You" is directly a part of it after all.(edited)
Lets say you define "you" as "your body", and we define "you" as "perception of self".
you could say that a tulpa is still you.
we could say that a tulpa is not you.
We both are correct.
berockly (TTG)
In general i define the true self (the root of self) as a point of awareness
